It was the beginning of 2018 and there was no invite from Indy at Shaq Griffin's door in early January... but after social media made it a point to jump on the push to get the one-handed wonder to Lucas Oil Stadium he finally got the call. The snub was on a long list of doubts Griffin has overcome throughout his life, and simply being at the NFL Scouting Combine would have been cool, but he took kind of cool and turned it into Frank Sinatra on a Saturday night. Griffin over the course of the last 7 days made it a point to dominate everything he touched, with speed and power he woke up the nation to a guy that is due to make an impact in the NFL. Make no mistake... this is just the start for Shaq!
The 22 year old inspiration and reigning AAC Defensive Player of the Year pumped out 20 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press with just one hand. Griffin was allowed to use a prosthetic attached to the bar which honestly, made the whole thing look ten times more bad ass! He said afterwards his goal when he started prepping for the Combine was 6... and he crushed that number.
He might not be officially a College Football National Champion despite going undefeated last season with UCF, winning the AAC and Peach Bowl over Auburn, but he is etched in the history books as the FASTEST Linebacker in the history of the NFL Scouting Combine thanks to his blazing 40 below...
"Back when I was eight years old, I played because I loved the game. I still do. But now, I also play because I believe it’s my purpose. I know that it won’t come easy. Nothing comes easy. But I will fulfill that purpose. I have no doubt." - Shaq Griffin in his open letter to NFL GM's via The Players Tribune
