The Super Bowl Belongs On Sunday, Stop Suggesting Otherwise

A petition has been started at Change.org that has been signed by more than 120,000 people. The petition is a movement to move the National Football Leagues biggest event from Sunday to Saturday. Every year we see petitions like this and I never understand why anybody would want this to happen or why people think this could actually happen.

Sundays are made for the NFL, yes we have our playoff games on Saturday nights and we enjoy them, that doesn't mean we erase decades of history and eliminate "Super Bowl Sunday". First off it would never happen, too much money would be lost. Sunday is prime time television, more people are at home on a Sunday night compared to a Saturday night. Viewers are more likely to be out at a bar or gathering that doesn't involve football on a Saturday night. Think about your girlfriend, wife, or ex wife, and her friends who don't watch football, but do watch the Super Bowl. If the game is played on Saturday, they could be out having girls night and not having eyes on the game. There is a reason Seinfeld, Friends, The Fresh Prince, and Full House didn't air on Saturday nights.

You could make the argument that maybe the game start earlier but that is very unlikely to happen as well. The game already kicks off just after 3pm on the west coast. If you are so concerned with having to work the day after the Super Bowl, take the damn day off. If you don't have vacation time, suck it up butter cup. Super Bowl Sunday is here to stay and will never change no matter how many petitions you sign.
