Orioles And Pirates Play Bottom Of 9th Inning Without Umpires

The Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates decided to play an unofficial bottom of the 9th Tuesday. After Baltimore's Josh Lester grounded out to end the top of the 9th, managers from both teams had a quick conversation about extending the game. Orioles skipper Brandon Hyde wanted to get pitcher Ofreidy Gomez some work, but the umpires were having none of it. They left the field, officially ending the game, but in the spirit of some good old fashioned backyard baseball, the two teams took the field for an extra half inning with no officials. Balls and strikes were called by Orioles minor league catcher Maverick Handley.
