The Tampa Bay Rays (79-81) defeated the Boston Red Sox (80-80) 2-1 on Friday night. The Rays and Red Sox are meeting in what will be the final series of the season for both teams.
Taj Bradley (8-11, 4.11) pitched six shutout innings in which he struck out seven and walked just one on three hits to set the pace. The Rays got all their offense in the seventh - moments after Josh Lowe drove in a run to make it 1-0, Christopher Morel accepted a bases-loaded walk that made it 2-0.
The Red Sox got one back in the bottom of the seventh, but the Rays were able to hang on for the win. Edwin Uceta earned his fifth save of the season after working a scoreless ninth inning.
The Rays will now look to win the final series of the season on Saturday afternoon. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 4:10 PM - Chris Adams-Wall is scheduled to begin pregame coverage at 2:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
