The Detroit Tigers (85-74) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (78-81) 4-3 on Thursday afternoon to sweep the Rays out of Detroit.
The Rays built a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning, but Detroit rallied with two in the sixth and two in the eighth to come away with the win. Garrett Cleavinger took the loss out of the bullpen after allowing the two eighth-inning runs. Tyler Alexander was the starter in this one and pitched five innings of shutout baseball.
The Rays now head to Boston to wrap up the regular season with a three-game series against the Red Sox. The Rays and Red Sox begin the three-game series on Friday night - first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
