The Detroit Tigers (84-74) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (78-80) 7-1 on Wednesday night. The Rays have now been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, the first time they will miss the postseason since 2018.
The Tigers built a 2-0 lead in the first before Junior Caminero hit a solo home run in the third to pull within 2-1. Detroit answered with a single run in the third before scoring two in the sixth and two in the eighth to turn the game into a blowout.
The Rays will now look to avoid being swept in the three game series when they meet on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with the Inside Pitch at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
