The Detroit Tigers (83-74) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (78-79) 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Detroit. In a game that was moved to the afternoon due to inclement weather in Detroit, the Tigers came out on top and snapped the Rays winning streak at four games.
The only offense for the Tigers came in the fifth inning when Wenceel Perez hit a two-run ground-rule double to take a 2-0 lead off Rays starter Ryan Pepiot. Pepiot (8-7, 3.64) finished the game allowing just those two earned runs on three hits while striking out six and walking four.
Brandon Lowe hit a solo homer with two runs in the ninth inning to ensure the Rays would not be shut out, but that would be as close as the Rays would get.
The Rays look to bounce back when they meet in the middle game of the the three-game series on Wednesday night. First pitch on Wednesday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting the Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
