Padres Take Series From Rays

The San Diego Padres (78-61) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (67-69) 4-3 on Sunday afternoon. With the win in the rubber game, the Padres claimed the three-game interleague series at Tropicana Field.

The Padres built a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning thanks in part to a two-run home run from Jackson Merrill. The Rays were able to answer with three runs (on just one hit) in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game. The Padres got the winning run across in the ninth when Xander Bogaerts hit a sacrifice fly that would prove to be the difference in the game.

The Rays will now prepare to host the Minnesota Twins for a four-game series beginning on Monday night. First pitch Monday is scheduled for 6:50 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
