The Tampa Bay Rays (62-61) defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks (69-56) 8-7 in twelve innings on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Rays completed a three-game sweep in the interleague series against the Diamondbacks.
The Rays built a 6-0 lead after six innings, but Arizona rallied with a run in the seventh, two in the eighth and three in the ninth to force extras. Both teams traded runs in the tenth before going scoreless in the eleventh. In the twelfth, Arizona was unable to score in their half. In the bottom of the frame it was Dylan Carlson coming through with a game-winning RBI single to lift the Rays to the 8-7 victory.
The Rays now begin a three-city, ten-game West Coast road trip beginning on Monday when they head to Oakland. First pitch between the Rays and Athletics is scheduled for 9:40 PM on Monday night - Taj Braley (6-7, 3.49) is scheduled to start for Tampa Bay.
