Rays Rally To Take Opener From Diamondbacks

The Tampa Bay Rays (60-61) defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks (69-54) 5-4 on Friday night at Tropicana Field. With the win, the Rays snap a three-game losing skid.

Arizona scored two unearned runs in the first to take an early lead. The Rays were able to rally in this one, and it began in the fifth inning when Dylan Carlson hit a solo homer to make it 2-1. Then the Rays rallied with a three-run eighth to take a 4-2 lead - the key moment was when Josh Lowe hit a two-run flair single to give Tampa Bay their first lead of the game.

The Diamondbacks were not done, as the Diamondbacks were able to get to Rays closer Pete Fairbanks for his third blown save of the season. It was Corbin Carroll coming through with the big blow, hitting a game-tying, two-run homer with two outs and two strikes in the top of the ninth inning.

The Rays had the last word in the ninth inning - Jonny DeLuca reached on a walk. Then with two outs Brandon Lowe hit a single to center field - DeLuca was able to score all the way from first on a throwing error from center fielder Blaze Alexander and the Rays walked off with the win.

The Rays will now look to win the three-game series coming up on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 3:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
