Reds Beat Rays In Extras

The Cincinnati Reds (50-53) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (52-52) 3-2 in ten innings on Friday night at Tropicana Field. For the 25th time this season, the Rays are .500.

It was an emotional day for the Rays, who traded fan favorite outfielder Randy Arozarena to the Seattle Mariners overnight on Thursday night into Friday morning. Then within a couple of hours of game time, the team announced they had traded Zach Eflin to the Baltimore Orioles.

The Reds scored two runs in the first inning when Jeimer Candelario drove in a pair with a RBI double. The Rays would rally to tie the game with two runs in the second inning thanks to RBIs from Jose Siri and Jose Caballero.

That would be the score through nine innings of this game - in the tenth inning the Reds were able to get a RBI double from Stuart Fairchild to make it 3-2, which would prove to be the final score.

Shane Baz pitched six innings of two-run ball in which he allowed just two hits while striking out seven and walking two. Manuel Rodriguez (1-2, 2.81) took the loss allowing the unearned run in the tenth inning.

The Rays will now try to even the three-game series with the Reds coming up on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 3:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
