Rays Take Opener From Blue Jays

The Tampa Bay Rays (51-50) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (45-55) 4-2 on Tuesday night at Rogers Centre in Toronto.

Josh Lowe got the scoring started with a RBI single in the second inning. Brandon Lowe hit a two-run homer in the fifth that made it 3-0 before the Blue Jays got on the board.

Toronto got homers solo homers from Vladimir Guerrero Jr and Justin Turner to pull within 3-2 in the sixth inning. The Rays got a run back in the seventh when Taylor Walls scored after Isaac Parades grounded into a double play to make it 4-2.

Shawn Armstrong was the opener and pitched two innings while allowing one hit and striking out four and walking one. Tyler Alexander (3-3, 5.88) pitched three shutout innings in which he allowed three hits while striking out four. Pete Fairbanks earned his 19th save after working a perfect ninth inning.

The Rays will now look to win the three-game series against the Blue Jays coming up on Wednesday night. First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 7:07 PM - pregame coverage begins with the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
