Mariners Salvage Finale From Rays

The Seattle Mariners (46-37) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (40-41) 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The loss snapped the Rays winning streak at three games.

Yandy Diaz made some history - with a single in the first inning, he extended a hitting streak to 19 games, tying a franchise record. Then in the third inning he drove in a run to give Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead.

The Mariners took control of the game with three in the sixth and two in the seventh. After Ryan Pepiot allowed just one earned run on one hit in five and one-third innings of work in which he struck out eight, Seattle got to Shawn Armstrong (2-2, 3.96) for two runs and Kevin Kelly for two runs.

The Rays are now off on Thursday and will host the Washington Nationals for a three-game series beginning on Friday night. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 6:50 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting the Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
