Twins Come Back To Beat Rays With Walk-Off Hit

The Minnesota Twins (41-32) beat the Tampa Bay Rays (34-39) 7-6 on Tuesday night in Minneapolis. Carlos Santana had the walk-off single in the ninth inning to lead the Twins to the come-from-behind win.

Randy Arozarena hit a three-run homer in the first inning for Tampa Bay, who built a 4-0 lead in the third inning. After Minnesota answered with four in the fourth, the Rays got two in the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. The Twins would rally, though, tying the game with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

In the ninth inning, Rays closer Pete Fairbanks was pulled from the game after being hit by a comebacker, but x-rays were negative. Moments later veteran Carlos Santa delivered a pinch-hit, walk-off single to lift Minnesota to the win.

The Twins look to bounce back in the second game of the three-game series on Wednesday night. First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 7:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
