Rays Rally In Ninth For Walk-Off Win

The Tampa Bay Rays (32-35) defeated the Chicago Cubs (32-25) 5-2 on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field. Brandon Lowe hit a three-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Rays to the win.

The Cubs built a 2-0 lead thanks to runs in the fourth and the sixth. Tampa Bay got a run on a wild pitch in the seventh to pull within 2-1, which would be the score going into the ninth inning.

In the bottom of the ninth inning Jose Caballero tied the game with a RBI single to make it 2-2. Moments later second baseman Brandon Lowe hit a three-run home run to lift the Rays to a 5-2 win.

Zach Eflin got the start and allowed two earned runs on seven hits in five and two-thirds innings of work in which he struck out three and walked none. Chris Devenski (2-1, 5.73) was the pitcher of record and got the win after the Rays rallied in the bottom of the ninth.

The Rays now look to win the series against the Cubs in the middle game of the three-game series on Wednesday night. Aaron Civale (2-5, 5.51) is scheduled to start for the Rays and face Javier Assad (4-2, 2.74) for the Cubs.
