The Baltimore Orioles (41-22) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (31-33) 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The Rays have now lost two in a row to start the four game series against their AL-East rivals.
Yandy Diaz led off the game with an infield hit back to Orioles pitcher Kyle Brandish. The Orioles then proceeded to put down the next 26 Rays batters they faced in a row. Yandy Diaz came through with his second hit with two outs in the ninth inning to account for the only other base runner of the night.
Taj Bradley (1-4, 5.17) took the loss but was effective, allowing just one earned run on three hits in five innings in which he struck out seven and walked one. Baltimore led 1-0 into the eighth inning, when Jordan Westburg hit a RBI triple to make it 2-0. Then the Orioles added separation in the ninth when Gunnar Henderson hit a three-run blast to make it 5-0.
The Rays look to bounce back in the third game of the four-game series against the Orioles on Sunday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Chris Adams-Wall hosting This Week In Rays Baseball at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
