The Boston Red Sox (22-20) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (21-22) 5-4 in twelve innings on Tuesday evening in Boston. The win evens the four game series 1-1 with two games remaining.
Josh Lowe hit his first homer of the year for the Rays in the first, but Boston got the lead back in the fourth with a two-run double from Dominic Smith. After Boston built a 3-1 lead, the Rays rallied to tie the game in the sixth with a homer from Randy Arozarena and a RBI single from Isaac Paredes.
Tied 3-3 going into extras, the Rays had a chance to win when they scored to make it 4-3, but Boston found a way to score in the bottom of the frame to force a twelfth inning. In the bottom of the twelth inning it was Romy Gonzales getting a RBI single to lift the Red Sox to the 5-4, extra inning win.
The Rays and Red Sox meet in the third game of the four game series on Wednesday night. Taj Bradley (1-1, 1.50) scored for the Rays opposed by Tanner Houck (3-4, 2.24) for Boston.
