Yankees Take Series From Rays

The New York Yankees (27-15) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (20-21) 10-6 on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The win gives New York a series victory over Tampa Bay in the AL-East showdown. In spite of dropping the series, the Rays finished the nine-game homestand with a 6-3 record.

Tyler Alexander (1-2, 5.45) got the start and allowed six earned runs on sven hits while striking out three and walking two. The Yankees were able to build a 6-0 lead off of him before the Rays made it a game late.

Tampa Bay got a five-run seventh inning, thanks in large part to a grand slam from Jose Siri. The Yankees answered with a four-run eighth inning, which included a huge three-run homer from Gleyber Torres before Jose Treveno added a solo homer to make it 10-5. Yandy Diaz added his third home run of the season with a solo shot in the ninth inning.

The Rays now go on the road for a seven-game road trip through Boston and Toronto. The road trip begins with a four-game series against the Red Sox beginning on Monday night. Zach Eflin (2-4, 3.75) is scheduled to start for the Rays, opposed by Kutter Crawford (2-1, 1.75) for the Red Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Ronnie Lane hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
