The Tampa Bay Rays (8-6) defeated the San Francisco Giants (5-9) 2-1 on Friday night at Tropicana Field. The win gives the Rays three consecutive wins for the first time this season.
In the bottom of the second inning with the bases loaded, Yandy Diaz accepted a bases-loaded walk that gave Tampa Bay an early 1-0 lead. The Giants got their run in the top of the third when Jacob Waguespack threw a wild pitch that allowed Jung Hoo Lee to score. Tampa Bay didn't wait long to answer, getting a RBI double from Amed Rosario to make it 2-1 which would turn out to be enough for the Rays.
Waguespack allowed one unearned run on four hits in his four innings of work while striking out four and walking two. Garrett Cleavinger (2-0, 4.05) got the win out of the bullpen with an inning and two-thirds of scoreless work. Pete Fairbanks worked around a leadoff walk in the ninth inning to earn his third save of the season.
