Rockies Blast Walk-Off Grand Slam To Beat Rays In Home Opener

The Colorado Rockies (2-6) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (3-5) 10-7 on Friday afternoon in Colorado, giving the Rockies a thrilling win on their home opener.

The Rockies built a lead of 6-2, thanks in part to two-run homers from Ezequiel Tovar and Kris Bryant. That would be the score going into the ninth inning, but the Rays rallied with a five-run outburst in the top of the frame.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Rockies got the bases loaded with three walks from Pete Fairbanks Ryan McMahon would be the hero of this one, hitting a walk-off grand slam to lift the Rockies to the win.

Zack Littell put together a good start for the Rays, allowing one earned run on five hits in five innings of work while striking out five and walking none. Pete Fairbanks (0-1, 0.82) took the loss by walking the bases loaded without getting an out in the bottom of the ninth.

The Rays now look to even up the three-game series against Colorado on Saturday evening. First pitch from Denver is scheduled for 8:10 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 7:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
