The Tampa Bay Rays (89-56) defeated the Minnesota Twins (75-69) 7-4 on Monday night at Target Field in Minneapolis.
Josh Lowe hit a RBI single in the first before Jose Siri added a RBI single of his own in the second to give Tampa Bay a 2-0 lead.
After the Twins scored to make it 2-1 in the fourth, Taylor Walls blasted a three-run homer in the fifth to give the Rays control of this lead. Yandy Diaz also homered in the sixth to help give Tampa Bay a 7-1 lead. Royce Lewis hit a three-run homer in the sixth to cut the lead to 7-4, but that would be as close as the Twins would get.
Tyler Glasnow (9-5, 3.15) got the win after allowing four earned runs on six hits in six innings of work while striking out eight and walking two. Pete Fairbanks worked a scoreless ninth for his 23rd save of the season.
The Rays and Twins now meet in the second game of the three-game series on Tuesday night. First pitch from Target Field is scheduled for 7:40 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 7:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
