Rays Salvage Finale In Cleveland

The Tampa Bay Rays (83-54) defeated the Cleveland Guardians (66-71) 6-2 on Sunday evening in Ohio.

Rene Pinto gave the Rays an early lead, hitting a two-run blast in the third to give Tampa Bay a 2-0 advantage. However, as has happened so often in this series, the Guardians rallied. They got single runs in the third and fifth to tie the game 2-2.

That would be the score going into the eighth, when with two outs Jose Siri took a walk and promptly stole second. Taylor Walls came through with a RBI single to break the tie and give the Rays a 3-2 lead. The Rays came through with three more runs in the ninth inning to give the Rays much needed insurance en route to a 6-2 win.

The Rays now return home for a seven-game, two-team homestand which begins against the Red Sox on Monday afternoon. First pitch of the three game series between the Rays and Red Sox is scheduled for 4:10 PM on Labor Day. Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 3:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
