Yankees Take Opener From Rays

The New York Yankees (62-66) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (78-52) 6-2 on Friday night at Tropicana Field. The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for the Rays.

Gerrit Cole (11-4, 2.95) was dominant for New York, allowing just two runs, one of them earned, on three hits while striking out eleven and walking none.

He outdueled Zach Eflin (13-8, 3.55) who also struck out eleven while allowing just two earned runs on seven hits in his six innings of work.

The Rays will look to even the series with the Yankees on Saturday afternoon in the middle game of the three-game series. Tyler Glasnow (6-4, 3.35) will start for Tampa Bay and face Clarke Schmidt (8-7, 4.68) for New York.
