The Tampa Bay Rays (74-50) defeated the Los Angeles Angels (60-63) 9-6 in ten innings on Friday night in Anaheim, California.
This was a wild game that saw Angels star Shohei Ohtani hit a grand slam in the second inning to give the Angels a 5-1 lead early in the game.
The Rays would fight back in what would be a wild game. Tied 6-6 in the ninth inning with no outs and runners at first and third, Harold Ramairez hit into a 6-4-3-2 triple play.
In spite of these plays against the Rays, Tampa Bay and Anaheim were tied 6-6 going into extras. The Rays got three in the tenth to knock off the Angels and win the series opener.
The Rays and Angels will now play a doubleheader on Saturday, as the previously scheduled game for Sunday was moved up because of anticipated weather from Hurricane Hillary. The doubleheader will begin on Saturday afternoon at 4:07 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 3:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
