Tigers Even Series With Rays

The Detroit Tigers (49-61) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (67-46) 4-2 on Saturday afternoon in Detroit. The win evens the three game series at a game apiece with the series finale coming up on Sunday.

The Rays struck first with a RBI single from Manuel Margot in the second inning. The Tigers had an answer - Jake Rogers, batting in the ninth spot, hit a RBI single in the bottom of the second before hitting a two-run double in the bottom of the fourth. Akil Baddoo hit a solo homer in the sixth inning to make it 4-1.

The Rays did get one run back in the seventh but 4-2 was as close as they could get. Aaron Civale (5-3, 2.55) made the start and allowed three earned runs on nine hits while striking out four and walking none in four and one-third innings of work. For Civale, it was his Tampa Bay debut, after being acquired via a trade with the Cleveland Guardians on Monday.

The Rays will once again look to win the series when they meet the Tigers in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. Tyler Glasnow is scheduled to start for the Rays, opposed by Matt Manning for Detroit. First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage with This Week In Rays Baseball at 12:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of the Rays.
