The Tampa Bay Rays (67-45) beat up the Detroit Tigers (48-61) 8-0 on Friday evening in Detroit.
The Rays scored early and often in this one, getting two in the first and two in the second to take an early 4-0 lead. They added three in the sixth and one in the seventh to turn the game into a blowout.
Zack Littell (2-2, 4.04) pitched six shutout innings in which he allowed just three hits while striking out one and walking one to get the win. Kevin Kelly worked the seventh inning before Shawn Armstrong secured the shutout by working the game's final two innings.
The Rays will now look to win the series against the Tigers on Saturday afternoon.
