The Baltimore Orioles (59-37) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (60-40) 4-3 in ten innings on Thursday night to take sole possession of first place in the AL East.
Baltimore built a 3-1 lead, before Yandy Diaz came through with a huge two-run double in the seventh inning to tie the game 3-3. That would be the score after nine innings.
In the top of the tenth inning, Colton Cowser drove in Aaron Hicks on a sacrifice fly to give Baltimore what would be the winning run.
Tyler Glasnow pitched seven innings for the first time in two years, allowing three runs (two of them earned) on six hits while striking out nine and walking none. Robert Stephenson (1-4, 4.15) took the loss in extras.
The Rays and Orioles meet in the second game of the three game series on Friday night. Zach Eflin is expected to start for the Rays, opposed by Kyle Bradish for Baltimore. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - Ronnie Lane begins pregame coverage with the Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
