Rays Earn Doubleheader Sweep Over Royals

The Tampa Bay Rays (60-35) defeated the Kansas City Royals (26-67) twice on Saturday in Kansas City. The teams were playing in the doubleheader because the scheduled opener on Friday night was rained out.

Tampa Bay won the first game 6-1. Jose Siri homered twice, Franscico Mejia also hit a solo home run, and Luke Raley went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Tyler Glasnow (3-3, 3.78) earned the win by allowing one earned run on six hits in six innings of work while striking out seven and walking two.

The Rays defeated Kansas City 4-2 in spite of trailing 2-1 going into the seventh inning. Jose Lowe tied the game with a RBI triple in the seventh, before Luke Raley put the Rays ahead with a RBI single in the eighth. Harold Ramirez added a sacrifice fly to make it 4-2 in the ninth. Colin Poche (7-2, 2.12) earned the victory with a scoreless inning out of the bullpen. Pete Fairbanks worked a scoreless ninth for his tenth save.

The Rays will try and sweep the three-game series with the Royals on Sunday afternoon. Zach Eflin is expected to start for Tampa Bay, and face Brady Singer for the Royals. First pitch from Kauffman Stadium is scheduled for 2:10 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage with This Week In Rays Baseball at 12:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
