The Tampa Bay Rays (56-28) defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks (48-34) 6-1 on Thursday afternoon in Phoenix. The win gives the Rays a series win in the three-game series in the desert.
Luke Raley gave the Rays an early lead with a first inning home run, before the Rays offense erupted for five runs in the third inning, which included a two-run triple from Wander Franco.
Zach Littell was the opener, pitching two shutout innings, before giving way to Yonny Chirinos in bulk. He pitched six innings in which he allowed one earned run on seven hits while striking out four and walking three.
The Rays now head to Seattle for a three-game series against the Mariners beginning Friday night. Ace Shane McClanahan will start the series on Friday night - first pitch from the Pacific Northwest is scheduled for 10:10 PM.
