The Tampa Bay Rays (54-27) defeated the Kansas City Royals (22-56) 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The win gives the Rays a split in the four game series with the Royals, and they finish the six-game homestand with a 3-3 record.
Tyler Glasnow struck out twelve in five innings of work in which he allowed one earned run on four hits and walking only one. Colin Poche (5-2, 2.20) got the win out of the bullpen, while Pete Fairbanks worked the ninth inning for his eighth save of the season.
Jose Siri hit a solo home run in the third inning to give the Rays an early 1-0 lead. After Kansas City got the run back in the fourth, the game would be tied 1-1 going into the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the seventh Tampa Bay took advantage of some Royals miscues, including Siri scoring the go-ahead run when Kansas City reliever Tayler Clarke threw a wild pitch. They added another on a Harold Ramirez sacrifice fly to give the Rays the 3-1 win.
The Ray are now off on Monday and travel to Arizona for a three-game series with the Diamondbacks beginning on Tuesday night. First pitch Tuesday night is scheduled for 9:40 PM - Chris Adams-Wall begins pregame coverage at 9:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
