Rays Close Homestand With Series Win Over Rangers

The Tampa Bay Rays (48-20) defeated the Texas Rangers (41-23) 7-3 on Sunday afternoon. The win gives the Rays a series win over the team with the second best record in baseball, and gives the Rays a 5-1 mark on their six game homestand.

The Rays got two in the first and two in the second to build a 4-0 lead, but Texas answered with three in the third to cut the lead to 4-3. Wander Franco hit a three-run bomb in the fourth inning to make it 7-3, which gave the Rays all the lead they would need.

Shane McClanahan (10-1, 2.18) allowed three earned runs on four hits while striking out five and walking one to get the win. Colin Poche and Jason Adam worked the eighth and ninth to close it out - though the Rangers got the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, Adam got Ezequiel Duran to ground into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.

The Rays now head to California for a seven-game, two city trip to Oakland and San Diego. They begin the road trip in Oakland on Monday night - first pitch is scheduled for 9:40 PM ET. Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 9:00 PM on Monday night - you can hear all the action on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
