Rays Walk Off For Fifth Straight Win

The Tampa Bay Rays (45-19) defeated the Minnesota Twins (31-31) 2-1 on Wednesday night at Tropicana Field.

Isaac Paredes hit a solo homer in the second to give the Rays the early lead. That 1-0 lead would hold until the top of the ninth inning, when Royce Lewis hit a RBI single to tie the game 1-1. In the bottom of the ninth it was Randy Arozarena coming through with a walk-off blast to center field to lift the Rays to 26 games above .500 on the season.

Shawn Armstrong worked as the opener, pitching two shutout innings, before giving way to Cooper Criswell who pitched the next three and one-third innings without allowing a run. Though Jason Adam (2-1, 3.08) was unable to convert the save, allowing a run in the top of the ninth inning, he was the winning pitcher after Arozarena's walk-off heroics.

The Rays will now look to sweep the Twins when they meet in the final game of the three game series on Thursday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM - Jay Recher begins pregame coverage with the Inside Pitch at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
