The Chicago White Sox (8-21) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (23-6) 12-9 on Sunday afternoon in Chicago. The win prevented the Rays from sweeping the White Sox, both in the four-game weekend series in Chicago, and in the seven game season season for which the Rays had won the last six games.
The Rays trailed the White Sox 4-2 after seven innings before Tampa Bay erupted for five runs in the eighth and two more in the ninth to build a 9-5 lead going into the bottom of the ninth inning.
In the bottom of the ninth Chicago erupted for seven runs to once again turn the game around and come away with the stunning victory. After tying the game 9-9, Andrew Vaughn hit a three-run, walk-off home run that gave the Rays a 12-9 win.
The Rays are now off on Monday before beginning a three game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday. First pitch between the Rays and Pirates on Tuesday night is scheduled for 6:40 PM - Ronnie & T-Kras begin pregame coverage at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620, your Home of Rays Baseball.
