The Boston Red Sox (76-84) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (86-74) 4-3 on Monday night at Fenway Park in Boston.
Wander Franco struck first for the Rays, hitting a solo homer in the first to put Tampa Bay on the board. Manuel Margot added a two-run homer in the fourth to make it 3-0, but the Red Sox would answer.
Boston put together a three-run eighth inning with a two-run double from Christian Arroyo and a RBI double from Enrique Hernandez. Then Rafael Devers broke the tie with a RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to give Boston a 4-3 advantage.
Tyler Glasnow threw 64 pitches in his second start since returning from the IL. He pitched three and two-thirds innings of shutout baseball while striking out seven and walking one. Kevin Herget (0-1, 7.71) pitched four and one-third innings and allowed all four earned runs in the loss - it was his third appearance of the season for the Rays.
The Rays and Red Sox now meet in the second game of the three game series on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
