Blue Jays Widen Wild Card Lead With Win Over Rays

The Toronto Blue Jaye (81-62) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (79-63) 5-1 on Wednesday night in Toronto. The Rays are now in third place in the AL Wild Card race, trailing the Blue Jays by a game and a half. Toronto currently holds the top spot, with the Seattle Mariners are currently in the second spot in the AL Wild Card race with a 80-62 record.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr set the pace, homering in the first inning and driving in a third inning run as Toronto built a 5-0 lead through six innings. It was Guerrero's 100th home run in his young major league career. Harold Ramirez hit a solo shot in the seventh inning to account for the Rays only offense.

Drew Rasmussen (10-5, 2.77) got the start and pitched four innings. He allowed four earned runs on six hits while striking out one and walking one. Josh Fleming pitched the final six innings for the Rays, allowing one earned run on five hits while striking out one and walking one.
