Rays Beat Blue Jays in First Game of Doubleheader

The Tampa Bay Rays (79-61) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (79-62) 4-2 on Tuesday afternoon in the first game of a day-night doubleheader. The win snaps the Rays losing skid at three.

Randy Arozarena went drove in two runs and scored another to lead the way. The Rays got one in the first and three in the third to take an early 4-0 lead. Toronto answered with two runs in the eighth inning, but Pete Fairbanks came in and shut the door to earn his seventh save. He pitched the final inning and a third allowing just one hit while striking out two.

Jeffrey Springs (8-4, 2.41) started the game and pitched six innings shutout innings, allowing three hits while striking out five and walking two.

The Rays and Blue Jays now meet in the second game of the day-night doubleheader on Tuesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 PM - Jay Recher begins pregame coverage with the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
