The Toronto Blue Jays (79-61) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (78-61) 3-2 on Monday night at Rogers Centre. The Blue Jays are now tied with the Seattle Mariners for first place in the AL Wild Card race, with the Rays a half-game behind both. The Rays have now lost three in a row after dropping the final two games in a three game series against New York over the weekend.
Jonathan Aranda gave the Rays a 1-0 lead with a RBI single in the second, before Bo Bichette tied the game with a RBI single in the fourth. The Rays again took the lead in the sixth inning, when Manuel Margot game up with a run-scoring fielder's choice. However, Bo Bichette blasted a two-run homer in the eighth inning that lifted Toronto to the win.
Jason Adam (2-3, 1.54) had a tough outing to take the loss, in what otherwise has been a spectacular season for the reliver.
The Rays now play the Blue Jays in a scheduled doubleheader on Tuesday. Game times are scheduled for 1:07 PM and 7:07 PM. Jay Recher begins a long day of Rays coverage with the Inside Pitch at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
