The Tampa Bay Rays (72-57) defeated the Miami Marlins (55-75) 2-1 in ten innings on Wednesday night in Miami. The win gives the Rays a season sweep in the four game Citrus Series against the Marlins and they are now only six games behind the Yankees in the AL East.
After Harold Ramirez doubled to give the Rays a 1-0 lead in the sixth, Jon Berti hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 1-1. That would be the score heading into extras, until Manuel Margot hit a RBI single to give the Rays a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the frame he made a game-saving catch in the outfield to help the Rays hang on for the win.
Drew Rasmussen got the start and allowed one earned run on four hits in six innings while striking out four and walking none. Jason Adam (2-2, 1.18) was the winning pitcher in this game, and Jalen Beeks picked up his second save of the season after retiring all three batters he faced in the bottom of the tenth.
The Rays are now off on Thursday before beginning a huge three game series against the Yankees on Friday night. First pitch from Tropicana Field is scheduled for 7:10 PM on Friday - Jay Recher begins pregame coverage with the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
