Rays Beat Angels In Series Opener

The Tampa Bay Rays (66-55) defeated the Los Angeles Angels (52-70) 2-1 on Monday night at Tropicana Field.

David Peralta drove in a run in the fourth inning to get the scoring started. After Mike Trout hit a RBI single in the top of the fifth to tie the game 1-1, Randy Arozarena blasted a monster solo home run in the bottom of the fifth to give the Rays the lead right back.

Jeffrey Springs (6-3, 2.46) worked five and two thirds innings to pick up the win. He allowed only one earned run on five hits while striking out seven and walking three. Shawn Armstrong picked up his first save of 2022 when he worked a perfect ninth inning.

The Rays and Angels now meet in the second game of the four game series on Tuesday evening. First pitch from Tropicana Field is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
