Rays Begin Road Trip With Win Over Tigers

The Tampa Bay Rays (56-49) defeated the Detroit Tigers (42-65) 6-2 on Thursday evening in Detroit. The win is the second consecutive victory for the Rays, as they begin a road trip that will take them through Detroit and Milwaukee.

After Brandon Lowe got the scoring started with a two-run homer in the top of the third, the Tigers got two runs back in the bottom of the third after third baseman Yandy Diaz committed errors on back to back plays.

Brandon Lowe broke the tie in the fourth with a RBI single, before Yandy Diaz scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2. Randy Arozarena drove in two runs - one in the seventh a nd one in the ninth - to give the Rays a 6-2 advantage that would prove to be the final score.

Jeffrey Springs (4-3, 2.50) got the win after pitching six innings in which he allowed two unearned runs on four hits while striking out six and walking none.

The Rays and Tigers now meet in the second game of the three game series on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Neil Solondz at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
