Blue Jays Knock Off Rays On Tuesday Night

The Toronto Blue Jays (58-45) beat the Tampa Bay Rays (54-49) 3-1 on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.

Bo Bichette hit a RBI single in the first inning to give Toronto a 1-0 lead, and that would be the only offense until the ninth inning. Danny Jansen hit a bloop single in the top of the ninth to give Toronto a 3-0 lead, before Taylor Walls hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth for the Rays only offense of the night. Taylor Walls had both of the Rays hits on the night.

Kevin Gausman (8-8, 3.06) was brilliant, needing 103 pitches to get through eight shutout innings. He allowed only one hit and one walk while striking out ten, before giving way to Jordan Romano, who picked up his 25th save of the season.

Drew Rasmussen (6-4, 3.06) did his part, allowing only one earned run on six hits in six innings where he struck out three and walked two. He took the loss, though, as he left with the Rays trailing 1-0.

The Rays now look to bounce back and split the short two game series against the Blue Jays on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch from Tropicana Field is scheduled for 12:10 PM on Wednesday - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 11:30 AM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620. .
