(via Tampa Bay Rays Communications) - The Rays have acquired LH Garrett Cleavinger from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for minor league OF Germán Tapia. To make room on the 40-man roster, RH Luke Bard was designated for assignment.
Cleavinger will report to Triple-A Durham. He has a 2.79 ERA (29-IP, 9-ER) and 47 SO (14.59 SO/9 IP) in 22 apps (1 start) this season for Triple-A Oklahoma City. He has spent parts of the last three seasons in the majors with the Phillies (2020) and Dodgers (2021-22) and has a 4.70 ERA (23-IP, 12-ER) and 29 SO in 27 apps (1 start). He was sent from the Phillies to Dodgers in a three-team trade in December 2020, when the Rays traded LH José Alvarado to Philadelphia and received minor league 1B Dillon Paulson from Los Angeles.
