The Tampa Bay Rays (53-46) defeated the Baltimore Orioles (49-49) 6-4 on Wednesday evening at Camden Yards in Baltimore.
The Rays got a first inning two-run homer from Ji-Man Choi, and a second innng solo shot from Luke Raley, to take a 3-0 lead. Baltimore answered with runs in the second and third to pull within 3-1.
After Yandy Diaz hit a RBI double in the top of the fifth to make it 4-2, Trey Mancini had a RBI hit in the bottom of the fifth to make it 4-3. That would be the score heading into the ninth inning, when the Rays asked Colin Poche to get the final three outs.
Poche (3-1, 3.27) was unable to get the save, as Jorge Mateo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game 4-4. He would be in line for the win, though, when the game was tied heading to the tenth inning.
Randy Arozarena hit a RBI double in the tenth inning to give the Rays a 6-4 lead. In the bottom of the tenth, it would be Pete Fairbanks looking strong as he set down the Orioles in order in the bottom of the tenth for his first save of 2022.
The Rays will now look to salvage a split in the four game series against the Orioles on Thursday afternoon. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 12:35 PM - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
