Get Tampa Bay Rays News and Scores

Orioles Beat Rays In Extras

The Baltimore Orioles (46-45) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (50-41) 6-4 in extra innings on Saturday afternoon at Tropicana Field.

The Rays got a run in the first inning on a Baltimore wild pitch, and after the Os tied the game in the second, the Rays answered with two runs in the third. Randy Arozarena's solo homer was the big play of that inning, giving Tampa Bay a 3-1 lead.

Baltimore got one run in the fifth and a solo homer from Adley Rutschmann in the eighth to tie the game 3-3. That would be the score after nine innings.

The tenth inning saw the Rays and Orioles each get a run, before Baltimore took the lead for good in the eleventh. Ryan Mountcastle hit a two-run single and the Orioles had a 6-4 lead. The Orioles used Cionel Perez and Joey Krehbiel to finish the ballgame in the eleventh - for Krehbiel, he picked up his first save of the season.

Ryan Yarbrough had an effective start, allowing two earned runs on five hits in five and one-third innings. He struck out four and walked none in the outing.

The Rays and Orioles now meet in the rubber game of the three game series on Sunday afternoon, which will be the final game for both teams before the All-Star break. First pitch is scheduled for 1:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Neil Solondz hosting This Week In Rays Baseball at high noon on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
