Rays Drop Opener To Reds In Extras

The Cincinnati Reds (30-54) defeated the Tampa Bay Rays (45-38) 2-1 in ten innings on Friday night at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The only offense in regulation came in the third inning. After Ji-Man Choi gave the Rays a 1-0 lead with a single in the top of the third, Brandon Drury homered in the bottom of the frame 1-1.

Tied 1-1 after nine innings, the difference came in the tenth inning when Matt Wisler was called for a balk with runners at first and third that allowed the winning run to score.

Shane McClanahan and Luis Castillo were brilliant on the mound for both teams, as they each allowed just one run. Castillo worked seven innings, while McClanahan worked six innings. McClanahan allowed one earned run on three hits in those six innings while striking out eight and walking two.

The Rays and Reds now meet in the middle game of the three game series on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:10 PM - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 3:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
