The Tampa Bay Rays (35-25) defeated the Minnesota Twins (35-27) 6-0 on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis. The Rays salvaged the finale of the weekend series to avoid being swept.
The Rays got on the board in the third inning with a RBI single from Ji-Man Choi before adding two more runs in both the fourth and the fifth to build a 5-0 lead. Kevin Kiermaier hit a solo homer in the eighth inning to make it 6-0, which would be the final score.
Jeffrey Springs (3-2, 1.45) picked up the win pitching five and one-third innings of shutout baseball in which he allowed two hits while striking out five and walking two. A bullpen of Matt Wisler, Jalen Beeks, Calvin Faucher and Colin Poche combined to complete the shutout.
The Rays are now off on Monday before beginning a three game series with the Yankees on Tuesday night. First pitch from the Bronx on Tuesday is scheduled for 7:05 PM - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 6:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
