Rays Take Advantage Of Blue Jays Miscues To Claim Series Win

The Tampa Bay Rays (21-14) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (18-17) 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field. The win gives the Rays the series win over Toronto.

Scoreless going into the sixth inning, the Rays were able to break through thanks to some key Toronto errors. After Brandon Lowe and Wander Franco both singled, Harold Ramirez reached on a fielder's choice that Blue Jays third baseman Matt Chapman threw away. Lowe scored on the play, Franco reached third and Ramirez took second base. Moments later, Lowe scored on a wild pitch from Alex Manoah to give the Rays a 2-0 lead. Ji-Man Choi added a RBI single and the Rays would have all the runs they needed to pick up a Sunday afternoon win.

Jeffrey Springs pitched four and two-third shutout innings in which he allowed four hits while striking out two and walking one. He gave way to Matt Wisler (2-1, 2.04) who picked up the win after throwing one and one-third hitless innings. Andrew Kittredge picked up his fifth save by keeping Toronto off the board in the ninth inning.

The Rays now prepare for a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers which begins on Monday night. First pitch Monday is scheduled for 6:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher hosting the Inside Pitch at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
