Rays Open Homestand With Win Over Blue Jays

The Tampa Bay Rays (20-13) defeated the Toronto Blue Jays (17-16) 5-2 on Friday night at Tropicana Field.

The Rays built a 2-0 lead, thanks in part to a RBI single from Mike Zunino in the fifth. Toronto answered with runs in the sixth and eighth tie the game 2-2, but the Rays answered with a big bottom of the eighth inning. Manuel Margot, Francisco Mejia and Brandon Lowe each drove in a run to make it 5-2 - Lowe on a triple, which was his second triple of the game.

Drew Rasmussen was good in his start, pitching five and two-third innings, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out one and walking one. Andrew Kittredge (3-0, 2.81) picked up the win out of the bullpen, before Jason Adam earned his first save of his career.

The Rays now look to win the series against the Blue Jays on Saturday evening. First pitch from the Trop is scheduled for 6:10 PM - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 5:30 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
