The Tampa Bay Rays (16-10) defeated the Seattle Mariners (12-14) 4-3 on Thursday night in Seattle. The Rays have now won four in a row and are perfect so far during their West Coast road trip.
The Rays got all of their runs in the fourth inning. After Harold Ramirez hit a RBI single, Mike Zunino hit a three-run bomb to give the Rays a 4-0 lead.
Seattle got a solo homer from Jesse Winker in the fifth, a RBI single from Eugenio Suarez in the bottom of the sixth, and a solo homer from Adam Frazier in the seventh to pull within 4-3. That would be as close as Seattle could get, as the Rays bullpen would hold on for a 4-3 win.
Shane McClanahan (2-2, 3.06) got the win after pitching five and one-third innings in which he allowed two earned runs on three hits while striking out five and walking two. Brooks Raley picked up his second save of the season after pitching a perfect ninth inning.
The Rays and Mariners meet in the second game of the four game series on Friday night. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 9:40 PM - pregame coverage begins with Neil Solondz at 9:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
