Rays Take Series From Mariners

The Tampa Bay Rays (11-8) defeated the Seattle Mariners (11-8) 2-1 on Thursday afternoon to win the three game series at Tropicana Field.

Seattle scored in the first inning when Eugenio Suarez tripled in Adam Frazier to give the Mariners a 1-0 lead. The Rays answer came in the form of Brett Phillips. The center fielder tied the game with a RBI single in the second inning. He then drove in the game winning run in the seventh on a ground ball to the left side of the infield that deflected off Mariners pitcher Chris Flexen, which allowed Harold Ramirez to score.

Jeffrey Springs started the game and allowed one earned run in two and two third innings while striking out three and walking none. J.P. Feyereisen (1-0, 0.00) got the win after pitching two shutout innings out of the bullpen, while Ryan Thompson picked up his second save by getting the final out of the ninth inning.

The Rays will next welcome in the Twins for a three game series which begins on Friday night. First pitch Friday night is scheduled for 7:10 PM - pregame coverage begins with Jay Recher hosting the Inside Pitch at 6:00 PM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
